had a friend hiding in the brush not too far off.  If you get too close to a Willet, they let you know it. In this regard
they resemble the Killdeer - their loud call alerts all the other birds of an intruder.  © Carol Davis, 4-15-2011

Willet at Antelope Island
It's always fun to be at Antelope Island when there are a lot of weird things happening. This day I saw a male Summer
Tanager (a strictly Southern Utah bird) and there were Willets sitting in bushes or on rocks at practically every
turn.  If they weren't sitting they were flying and squawking.  They tend to be a little touchy during breeding season
and have been known to chase invasive car species (specifically mine).  Incredible day! © Carol Davis 6-3-07
