Two Northern
Waterthrush (two photos)
A little
explanation... I was shooting photos at Garr Ranch on Sunday, May
4, and had been watching a Northern Waterthrush
walking the through the middle of a little tree, (about eye
level) . It settled in a nook of the tree and I was trying to
figure out how I could get closer to it without
scaring it. All of a sudden another waterthrush landed in the
tree and started walking toward it, bobbing and
swaying like they do. It was weird to see them in
a tree since the only place I had ever seen one was in the swamp.
I took pictures of both, as best I could,
through the branches and then the second one spotted me and
started flying towards
me all upset. It was landing on the outer branches and flying out
towards me when some strange guy and his friends
just came walking up behind me, talking loudly, and then blurted out
"what are you photographing?" I told them
"nothing, now" since the birds flew off on his loud
approach. It couldn't have been a one time mistake as he
had walked into several areas where I was trying to photograph.
Courtesy goes a long way, as my mother used to say.
I have a horrible
picture of the second waterthrush bobbing
through the
tree (below) and an even worse one of the other bird hiding in
the shady nook. I don't know if it was a
young waterthrush or just a female a male was
courting. Anyway, there are two Northern Waterthrush at Garr
Ranch.

The belly is not that yellow, just looks that way in the photo.
