Short-eared Owl at Bear River
Immature Short-eared Owl at Bear River MBR, Ut.  Short-eared Owls stand out from the crowd because the dark brown feathers around
the eyes give them a black-eyed appearance.  They are easy to identify in the field, even for the novice.  I think this is
the most beautifu of all the owls. © Carol Davis, 7-16-06

This is an adult that was hanging with the above immature at Bear River MBR.  Having been a birder for less
than 10 years, this was the first time I had actually seen the "ears" on a Short-eared Owl. © 8-20-2006

Short-eared Owl seen near Promontory Point on this day. This one was particularly beautiful with
the bright white markings, making the "black-eyes" even more noticeable. © Carol Davis, 6-4-06
