This is not just a picture of trees and bushes...
A closer look reveals...a Sharp-shinned Hawk
I walked into my computer room this morning and could hear the birds outside my window in the bushes squeaking
"hawk, hawk". I grabbed my camera and luckily found this cunning hunter pretending to be a trumpet-vine
limb near a spruce out by my carport. I could only get one photo through a crack in the door before she climbed
stealthily up through the spruce and nabbed a house finch. The birds in the tree were too scared to move for
fear they'd get caught, which inevitably led to lunch for this Sharp-shinned Hawk. It was the most skillful
hunting I have ever witnessed by a Sharp-shinned. © Carol Davis 1-25-2005
