"Up Periscope!"
I was driving along the canal at Bear River and hadn't seen anything but some Cinnamon
Teal and Coots. A movement caught my eye so I stopped and backed up. All I could see was a lump
poking out of the water and I thought it must be a frog. Upon looking through the binoculars, I was
startled to see just a head sitting out of the water and it made me laugh out loud. This cute little
Pied-billed Grebe had spotted me and was hiding under the water like a submarine with a periscope.
