Grasshopper
Sparrow
(three photos)
Ammodramus savannarum
Song 1 - normal
Song 2
- with
a warble on the end of it
The Grasshopper Sparrow has a short tail, complete eye
ring, white median crown stripe, large
beak that comes straight off the head giving almost a roman-nosed
appearance, streaking
on the nape of the neck, and an orange spot in the adult above and just
forward of the eye.
This sparrow had two songs--one normal and the other ending with a
warble. Very pretty.
These photos were taken in the Heber Valley fields of Utah on July 11,
2004.
