The Group
This is a terrible photo but it shows the lower bird with
some albino feathers. It was the only one like that.
This was just a small portion of the Common Grackles that
came in the fall to stock up on bird seed for their
departure south. They loved to pick amongst the growing sunflower
seedlings under my feeder. One day when
the call of the wild became strong, they a gathered on my deck and
talked about their vacation plans. I wanted
to take a picture of them all gathered on the railing around my deck
where the birdbath was, but I was afraid
I'd scare them off. What a fantastic moment that was to see and
hear them all out their enjoying life, and
believe me, the rest of the neighborhood could hear them enjoying life,
too! © Carol Davis, 10-16-2004
Almost all of the Common Grackles at the birdbath were taken
through my sliding glass door so the quality
wasn't the best. These group ones I took through a crack in the
door but at quite a distance. I'll never forget
the experience with these beautiful birds I had in 2004 and 2006,
especially the time I spent watching the
young ones at the birdbath.
