Wolf Spider
Alopecosa cuneata
Order Araneae (Spiders)
Suborder Opisthothelae
Infraorder Araneomorphae (True Spiders)
No Taxon (Entelegynae)
Family Lycosidae (Wolf Spiders)
Genus Alopecosa
Species cuneata (Alopecosa cuneata)

Wolf Spiders carry the egg sac around with them until the babies
hatch and then
they all ride the back of the spider for a period of time. If you
have ever stepped
on one of these with the babies attached it is quite a horrendous
experience
for both you and the spiders. The name of this particular wolf spider
translates to
"having a wedge" or "wedge shaped". I found a similar spider on Bugguide.net
and subsequently found the classification information. ©
