Barberry
Geometer
Coryphista meadii
I was hiking on the Twin Lakes trail at Brighton, Utah when I
saw this mid-sized moth zip under a small tree and land
right near the bottom. I had to crawl underneath the tree and try
to get a good shot in the shade. This is the only shot
that halfway worked out. It was a beautiful moth with its wings
being outlined in dark brown. As you can probably guess
by the name, the caterpillars feed on the Barberry Bush.
Barberrys are very hardy in Utah, at least mine was for years
until it decided to move on to that Big Garden in the Sky. ©
