*** After many years of sharing spaces with the caretakers and volunteers at Garr Ranch on Antelope Island, Whisper was found badly injured one morning.
She had a broken leg and some coyotes were attacking her. She was saved by the volunteers who had just shown up to work. They took her down to the
springhouse and waited until the rangers came and could put her down. It was a sad day for everyone who knew the spunky little girl. I talked to the volunteers
one day and they said she was a spoiled child but they missed her terribly. They told me how one time there was a big old thunderstorm coming in from the
south and she came running in from somewhere on the island and hid in the barn until the storm was over and then she raced out again. They laughed when
the told the story. Even after she was gone you would sometimes see one of her offspring just resting in the dark spaces of the barn.
