Syrphid
Fly
Syritta pipiens
Syrphid Flies are some of the most fascinating flies in
the insect world. Many looks like flies and many look
like bees. They all have their distinctive shapes and colors.
This one has a very strangely-shaped abdomen
and Schwarzenegger thighs (and possibly a higher IQ than
Arnold). © Carol Davis 8-29-2011
This tiny fly was pollinating flowers by dining on
pollen at Red Butte Gardens in Salt Lake City, Utah. If you
want to study bees and wasps, that is the place to do
it. You can find a nice article
on this fly here.
