Sunflower
Beetle
Zygogramma exclamationis
Adults and larve of these Leaf Beetles like to munch on the
sunflower plant. They can be a
serious pest of sunflower production. According to this
article, there is a parasitic tachnid fly,
Myiopharus macellus, that helps control this beetle. Bear River
MBR was the home of this
particular pest. Just a side note: near the bottom
border of this photo are two little rice-shaped
eggs of some
unknown insect.© C. Davis, 7-16-2006
