Strawberry
Root Weevil
Otiorhynchus ovatus
I have a lot of these in my yard and I have a lot of these in
spider webs throughout the property.
Cobweb spiders tend to really enjoy wrapping these little things up and
storing them away
in their webs. I'm all for it! These little weevils wreak havoc
on my lilac bushes, eating
little scallops out of all the leaves. After the season is done,
my lilacs look like I've taken
some decorative scrapbooking shears to them. I hate to use
pesticides so I just wait for the
growing season to end, hoping predatory insects have helped a
little. © Carol Davis, 5-23-2009
