Stiletto Fly
Family Therevidae

The little Stiletto Fly
somewhat resembles the Robber Fly and hunt insects just like it.
The larvae are
predaceous, as well. Garden
Safari has a neat page about Robber Flies, Dance Flies and Stiletto
Flies. Because
these flies are rather reclusive, this one thought I'd never spot it so
it landed on the edge of my car right next
to where I was sitting in the Kolob Canyon Overlook near Cedar City,
Utah. © Carol Davis, 6-12-2009
