Long-legged Fly   (two photos)
Dolichopodidae

long-legged fly
This was a good-sized Long-legged fly, 1/2 inch wings and all, that only let me get the one shot.  It resembles the much
larger Robber Fly but this little guy has a squatty body.  Found on Antelope Island.

tiny fly
You've probably seen these tiny, Long-legged Flies around your garden.  They are eye-catching, especially when the sun
reflects their beautiful colors.  Not only are they handsome, but they are predaceous in the larval and adult stage so please
resist the urge to smack them with your garden glove.  © Carol Davis, 8-17-2008
