Flower Longhorn
Species Cosmosalia chrysocoma
3/4 inch

This has to be one of the largest beetles I've seen on a flower.
It looks more like it should be hanging out on the
evergreens. I only got two shots and then it took off for the woods. It
was very beautiful! The larvae of this insect
eat decaying wood and it looks like the adults like to hang around
flowers. The Powder Mountain roadside
proved to be a great place to find insects. © Carol Davis,
