Epicauta - Part I (three
photos)
Blister Beetle

Epicauta blister beetles on rabbitbrush just outside St. George,
Utah. These beetles are vegetarians and can leave blisters on
your skin if
you bother them, hence the name "blister" beetle. Nonetheless,
they are gorgeous! Catching a photo of this mating pair was an
added
bonus. Some of these beetles had gold on them and others did
not. I was unable to identify them to species but I know from
Bugguide.net that Epicauta caviceps and Epicauta fortis have been
identified near St. George. © Carol Davis, 10-18-2008
