Coral
Pink Sand Dunes Tiger Beetle
Cicindela albissima
Tiger Beetles are especially hard to photograph since they
fly off a short distance every time you get
close. It's only when you find a mating pair that things get easy for
the photographer. These Cicindela
ablissima are a threatened species and part of the Coral Pink Sand
Dunes State Park is set aside to
protect threatened species such as these. © Carol Davis,

After I photographed a few pictures, these tiger beetles
became wary of me and scooted across the
sand still attached to one another trying to elude me. They remained
that way until the Ranger, who so
kindly found these for us, tried to take a picture and they flew
off. You can learn more about these
beetles from a PDF document located here.
