Syrphid
Fly (two photos)
Ceriana tridens

Looks like a wasp or bee, doesn't it? That's what
I thought it was, except I noticed how strange the antennae were.
Well, I found out that it's a Syrphid Fly. The larvae are predaceous
and the adults feed on nectar.

Such a gorgeous insect--it's hard to believe it's
a fly. Found in a climbing rose in Salt Lake City, UT. © Carol
