Carpenter Ant
(three photos)
Camponotus

This Carpenter Ant is tending to aphids. Aphids emit a
sweet nectar that attracts the ants and
so the ants guard them. Symbiosis in the sweetest sense. ©

The ants gather the sweet liquid emitted by the aphids with their
antenna. Perhaps they are sharing it in this photo taken at
Strawberry Reservoir in Utah. © Carol Davis, 9-14-2008
