Assassin Bugs
Genus Rhynocoris
1/2 inch

Red, yellow and black adorned Assassin Bugs mating
on Curlycup Gumweed
at Farmington Bay WMA in Davis County, Utah. I caught
these normally very reclusive insects in courtship. When I arrived they
were on different branches and within a couple of minutes they
were on the same branch and inseparable. When they saw me they
did their best to scoot out of sight but it took awhile and gave me a
small
window of opportunity for some photos. Assassin Bugs are
beneficial because they prey on other insects. © Carol
