Aphodius Dung
Beetle (three photos)
Aphodius fimetarius

These are really attractive dung beetles despite
their craving for exotic foods. When they fly they are heavy
laden and when
they land they have a tendency to crash on their little
backs. Maybe that's the safest way to land.

After struggling to right themselves, they
eventually head on over to the buffalo "pile" and dive in head first. I
had
to be quick to get pictures because they disappeared quickly.
They looked so cute thrashing around in the
gravel.
I kind of found myself wanting to tickle their little bellies (yeah,
right...) © Carol Davis, 11-3- 2010
