According to the
wonderful book "Butterflies
through Binoculars The West," the West Coast Lady differs from the
Painted Lady in a
couple of
ways. She is smaller and has a "black bar that completely crosses
the FW
cell." --that
would be the black bar that is toward the front of the front wing on
the very bottom in this photo.

The side view of
these butterflies is fascinating because of the intricate patterns in
the wings.

I found this slightly-worn little beauty on
